Renault Triber first official teaser video – Global debut on 19th June

Renault had confirmed the name of its upcoming sub 4-metre MPV – Triber some time ago. The MPV is scheduled for a global debut on 19th June, 2019 in Delhi. Ahead of it, the MPV has been officially teased in a new video.

The Triber has been developed as a low-cost MPV and its primary markets will be the developing markets like India. The product is based on a modified version of the CMF-A platform which it also shares with the Kwid.

Powering the Triber will be a 3-cylinger 1 litre SCe petrol motor which is also found on the Kwid and Datusn redi-GO. The petrol engine will be dishing out an additional 7hp when compared to the power output found in other cars (67 hp in Kwid). Upon launch, the engine will be mated to 5-speed MT as standard, however by mid-2020 it is expected that a 5-speed AMT and a turbocharged version of the 1-litre motor will also be introduced.

On the inside, Renault will be offering a touchscreen infotainment system which will be compaitable with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, passive keyless entry system, automatic climate control and an engine start-stop button. Another highlight will be the fact that the third row will be removable which would mean that it could free up additional boot-space, as per the requirement of the user. This will be an unique feature as no other car in the segment offers such customization. To make the car look attractive from the outside, Renault will also be including projector headlamps and LED DRLs on the top-end trims.

In terms of positioning, the Triber will be slotted between the Kwid and Duster in Renault’s line-up. Renault hopes that this new product will help Renault bring in some sales in an otherwise slowing market where Renault has been performing poorly. Other launch which Renault is planning on is the facelift of the Kwid which is expected to be launched ahead of the festive season.

Once launched, the Triber will be one of its kind value proposition in the Indian market. The closest competitor will be the Datsun Go+. Other potential competition can come in from Maruti WagonR 7 seater, which is launching next month. It is expected that the Triber will be priced aggressively and the pricing will be in the INR 4.5-7 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
