Renault Lodgy is planned for launch by end of this month or early April, 2015. After which the small car codenamed Renault XBA India launch is scheduled.

Sumit Sawhney, Renault India country CEO and MD, mentioned that XBA hatchback is still in development stage and will launch after nine months.

To be priced under Rs. 4 lakh, Renault XBA will compete with India’s all time favourite nameplate Maruti Alto, and with Hyundai Eon, Datsun Go and the like. The global car will be manufactured locally, at Renault-Nissan Alliance’s plant in Chennai.

At present, having five models in showrooms including Pulse hatchback, Scala sedan, Duster Crossover, Fluence sedan and Koleos SUV, the French carmaker holds just two percent market share in India. Out of which around 80 percent of sales comes from one model, Renault Duster.

In 2014, Renault India sold 48,000 units. With the launch of Renault Lodgy MPV, the company expects significant growth. By 2016 end, Renault India expects to capture 5 percent of Indian market, selling double the current volume. Since the French automaker has no plans to cross badge products with Nissan anymore, the new small car will not face internal rivalry, that is until Datsun Redi-Go small car based on same CMF-A platform comes out.

Achieving said target also requires widening and strengthening of dealership network, for which current count of 157 outlets is planned to be increased to 205.
