The Renault Zoe electric hatchback which is being sold in the affordable end of the European EV market has been spotted in Bangalore with UK license plates. Renault has not revealed any plans to launch the Zoe in India as of now and this particular vehicle belongs to Bangalore-based EV fleet startup Lithium Urban Technologies as evident from the decals.
The ZOE appears to be here on test by Lithium Urban Technologies who may be looking at importing the city car in bulk.
Lithium Technologies which focuses on B2B cab services (for corporate companies) has a fleet of Mahindra e2os. The company could be considering the addition of Zoe as a more practical and spacious offering.
The Zoe is powered by an 88 PS synchronous motor which delivers a healthy 250 Nm of torque (220 of which is available right from 250 rpm). Support by a 400 volt Lithium-ion battery, the hatchback has a maximum range of 240 km (based on New European Driving Cycle).
The battery takes around 9 hours to achieve full charge. The higher variant is capable of rapid charging which achieves 80% of charge in 30 minutes while using a 3-phase 43 KW socket.
The Renault Zoe is capable of accelerating from 0-100 kmph in 13.5 seconds and has a top speed of 135 kmph. If Lithium Urban Technologies decides to induct a fleet of Zoe EVs, it would serve as a good market study and test bed for Renault India which may or may not introduce pure electric vehicles in the future.
