Student riding without license or the Mercedes driver – Who’s to blame here?
The teen was not wearing a helmet and did not possess a driver’s license either.
Atul Arora, 16 was a victim of a hit and run accident at West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar on Sunday night. He was knocked down by a speeding silver colored Mercedes Benz which eye witnesses claim was travelling at 100 kmph at the time of the accident.
Atul, a XII class student at the Bal Bharati Public School, was run over by the speeding vehicle while the driver is yet to be identified as he fled from the scene of the accident.
Rishi Pal, DCP (Outer district), stated that Atul was riding the scooter without a helmet while he did not possess a driver’s license. He had just dropped a friend home and was returning home on his mother’ scooter when the accident occurred.
Despite eyewitnesses accounts, the Officer refused to comment on whether it was a Mercedes Benz vehicle that hit Atul even as the matter is under investigation. Atul is the youngest of a family of 5. He has two older sisters while his father is an employee at the Delhi Development Authority and his mother is a school teacher.
The above accident once again draws attention to the urgent need to adhere to rules and regulations. If you do not have a valid driver’s license, you should refrain from driving or riding vehicles on public roads. If you are riding, always wear a helmet. Head injury is the main reason in road related deaths.
