Roland S Folger succeeds Eberhard Kern as Mercedes Benz India MD and CEO

New boss comes with rich and varied experience of 30 years within Daimler.

After three years as managing director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India Ltd., Eberhard Kern will leave the charge to Roland S Folger, effective from 1st October, 2015. The former will assume a new role for the European market while the latter is currently the president and CEO of MB Malaysia.

Under Kern’s leadership, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury car maker breached 10,000 sales mark for the first time in the history (in 2014), doubled its production capacity at Chakan, increased its network coverage and expanded its product portfolio to include compact MFA models as well as top-end CBU imports. The brand is now poised to surpass its rivals to become No. 1 in the Indian luxury segment this calendar year.

The outgoing MD and CEO said that his India experience was enriching and humbling. He also thanked his MBIL colleges and dealer partners for all the support he received.

Under Eberhard Kern’s leadership, MBIL registered impressive growth and expanded its production capacity.

Talking about his new assignment, Folger stated that he is fascinated by India’s diversity and is committed to further strengthen the company’s operations here. Like his predecessor, Folger too is a three-decade Daimler veteran who has a rich and varied work experience to his credit. Apart from holding various sales department designations in South East Asian region, Folger also played an instrumental role in introducing first M-Class in the US.
