The new Rolls Royce Cullinan is an all wheel drive car and positioned on the same aluminum spaceframe platform, called Architecture of Luxury, as seen on the Phantom. Borrowing its name from the Cullinan Diamond, a 3106 carat jewel extracted from a South African mine in 1905, the Rolls Royce Cullinan is the epitome of ultra luxury and portrays the very best in off-road abilities.
This new SUV from Rolls Royce is a high sided vehicle. Its abilities have been earlier reviewed flying over off road conditions, over icy terrain and steep slopes. It was also earlier teased wherein certain exterior features were disclosed.
It receives a D shaped tail lamp with LED lamps with the RR logo, suicide doors and a Phantom style radiator grille. It gets tailgate mounted seats and a table. These seats prominently display the RR logo and fold back into a compartment on the boot floor when not in use. Rolls Royce is also offering a host of customization options on the Cullinan and will also present it with a choice of seating options as per customer’s demands.
In terms of performance, the Cullinan, being an off-roader SUV gets a rotary knob allowing for switchable off road mode along with hill descent control. The middle buttons on the left of rotary knob are for lowering and raising suspension which indicates that the Cullinan has air suspension for the best in ride quality well known to every Rolls Royce model.
Rolls Royce Cullinan gets Phantom’s 6.8 liter V12 engine with a plug in hybrid powertrain. This engine delivers 563 hp and 850 Nm. No diesel engine option is available. It does a top speed of 250 kmph. There is a drive mode, called Everywhere. The minute you press this, the car’s engine gives you all of its 850 Nm of torque to use. Be it snow, mud, gravel, grass, mud, etc. The car will glide over any terrain, thus – Everywhere Mode. It also has the highest ever wading depth seen on a luxury SUV at 540 mm.
Speaking about size, it is 5341 mm long, 2146 mm wide, and 1835 mm tall. It has a 3295 mm wheelbase and kerb wt of 2660 kgs. In comparison, the closest rival, Bentley Bentayga is 200 mm shorter and 166 mm narrower. Besides the Bentley Bentayga, the Rolls Royce Cullinan will also compete with the Lamborghini Urus, Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged, Mercedes-AMG G65 and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
