Royal Enfield 650 – Interceptor INT 650 and Continental GT 650, launched in India at the end of last year, have been developed to allow the bike maker to expand worldwide business in the mid segment space.
In India, the Interceptor INT 650 is priced at Rs.2.35 lakhs while the Continental GT carries a price tag of Rs.2.49 lakhs – making them the most affordable twin cylinder motorcycles on sale in the country.
While the RE 650 Twins will make their way to markets across the globe, exports to the UK are well underway. Interceptor INT 650 and Continental GT 650 are priced at £5,299 (Rs.4.88 lakhs) and £5,499 (Rs.5.09 lakhs) respectively. Bookings have been opened at Millennium Motorcycles, the official dealer of Royal Enfield Motorcycles in UK at a down payment of £100.
Royal Enfield maintains that the RE 650 Twins have been designed for global markets and are the most powerful motorcycles in the company’s portfolio. Both the models share the same underpinnings and designed to appeal to buyers both in India and in globally.
In terms of dimensions, the Royal Enfield 650 stands at 2,122mm x 1,165mm x 789mm (L X W X H). It gets a wheelbase of 1,400mm and ground clearance of 174mm. The two bikes share chassis, brakes and wheels. Both get 18” spoked wheels fitted with Pirelli Phantom Sportcomp tyres 100/90 R18 front and 130/90 R18 rear.
Other similarities includes braking which is via 320mm disc in the front and 240mm disc at the rear. In terms of suspension, both bikes get 41mm front forks and pre load twin shocks at the rear. ABS is offered as standard. The fuel tanks are of varying capacities standing 13.4 liters on the Interceptor 650 and at 12.5 liters on the Continental GT.
The RE Interceptor which is designed for daily commute, offers a more relaxed seating position for the rider unlike the Continental GT 650 which is designed as a tourer and hence offers a more upright riding position. The color options on the Interceptor 650 include Baker Express (white and red) and Ravishing Red (red and black) while top of the line is seen in a Glitter and Dust finish. Continental GT gets metallic color options of Black Magic and Ventura Blue, Dr Mayhem (grey and black) and Ice Queen (white and grey).
