Royal Enfield Continental GT is Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2014

The motorcycles were judged on basis of price, performance, style, fuel efficiency, safety standards, comfort features and technical innovations besides adaptability to Indian riding conditions. All four short listed motorcycles were of the highest standards. Aquila Pro excelled in comfort while 390 Duke was fast and Centuro was well equipped for an entry level motorcycle. However it was Continental GT that was declared a winner by six of the nine jurors, due to its looks, stability, rideability and also for the fact that it was reasonably priced.

Continental GT is meant for solo riding. Handlebars are adjustable and can be fitted with optional bar end rear view mirrors which not only add to styling but are much better than stock mirrors. The bike is fitted with a narrow and sculpted seat giving the bike a sporty touch while chrome accents and brushed metal in its overall design also add a touch of class.

Continental GT receives an air-cooled, fuel-injected 535cc motor offering maximum power of 29.1 bhp at 5,100 rpm and peak torque of 44 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5 speed gearbox offering excellent ratios both where city and highway riding is concerned.

Arun K Bajoria, President & Director, JK Tyre & Industries Limited said, “The ICOTY & IMOTY Awards bear testimony of JK Tyre’s relentless commitment to the advancement and strengthening of auto ancillary industry in India. This is a preferred platform brought alive to acknowledge and reward companies that feel the pulse of customers and develop products in close accordance. I would like to congratulate the winners as well as the nominees of ICOTY & IMOTY 2014, who are leaders in true sense of the automotive industry. Together we will continue striving towards newer benchmarks for India as well as the global automobile market.”

Vikrant Singh, Executive Editor, Overdrive and Chairman, Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2014 said, “This year we shortlisted four motorcycles; all at the top of their game. The Aquila Pro is a comfortable and torquey cruiser, the 390 Duke is fast and entertaining; and the Centuro is easily the best equipped entry-level motorcycle in the country. But, our winner, and by a decent margin, the Continental GT brings more to the table. It is good looking, dynamically stable, good to ride and it is well-priced too. No wonder six out of the nine jurors rated it as their top choice.”
