Royal Enfield Himalayan launched in the US – Becomes the cheapest Adventure bike on sale

Royal Enfield has announced the launch of their Himalayan FI for the US market (ABS is not on offer). Priced from $4,499 (Rs 2.9 lakh), the motorcycle made its global debut in Jan 2016 in India. This price tag makes the Himalayan the cheapest entry level adventure motorcycle on sale in the 250-500 cc segment. It rivals the likes of Versys-X 300 ($5,399 or Rs 3.5 lakh), Kawasaki KLX250 ($5,349 or Rs 3.45 lakh), and Honda CRF250L Rally ($5,899 or Rs 3.8 lakh).

Custom-made for those riders who want to travel the world on a motorcycle, no matter the distance or terrain. Royal Enfield claims that the Himalayan is a true adventure motorcycle built to last any terrain the rider throws at it.

Even in India, the Himalayan is one of the most affordable ADVs you can buy. Before Himalayan, such a bike would have set you back by a couple of lakhs, cause the options in the entry level are the likes of Benelli 600 GT, Kawasaki Versys 650, Triumph Tiger 800, and so on. What Royal Enfield has done, is designed a bike which will be similar in characteristics to the names above, but will also be easy on the pocket.

Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by LS400, a single cylinder 410 cc oil-cooled engine which is rated at 25 hp and 32 Nm. Mated to a 5-speed gearbox, RE claims that service intervals are at 10,000 kms, while spark plug change is required at 25,000 kms.

Built on a chassis designed by Harris Performance Parts, Himalayan is the first RE motorcycle to feature rear mono-shock suspension. Tested by CS Santosh, features on offer with Himalayan includes 21 inch wheels in the front, 19 inch at the rear, off-road tyres, long travel front suspension, analogue / digital instrument panel with speedometer, odometer, tachometer, altimeter and compass.
