Royal Enfield Himalayan test rides at dealership to start next month

Unveiled in India a day prior to the opening of 2016 Auto Expo, excitement now heats up for launch of Royal Enfield Himalayan.

Royal Enfield Himalayan, the company’s first adventure tourer, will be on a 10 day tour across India prior to launch in March. It will be on display at prominent malls with huge footfalls in Noida, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai from 12th Feb 2016 while official launch is slated for next month.

Royal Enfield Himalayan will be positioned below the Classic 500 and Continental GT in the company line-up. It is designed to cater to the demands of adventure loving aficionados in the country.

It will be an all new 411cc oil-cum-air cooled, single cylinder engine that will power the new Royal Enfield Himalayan capable of 24.5 bhp power at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm torque at 4,000 to 4,500 rpm mated to a 5-speed transmission. Fuel efficiency is expected to stand at around 40-45 kmpl.

Borrowing some inspiration from the Thunderbird and Continental GT, Royal Enfield Himalayan will receive a sporty appeal with rounded headlamp design, signature badge on side cowl and a high mounted splatter guard. It will sit on large 90/90 21” tyres at the front and 120/90 17” tyres at the rear and will have dimensions of 2,190mm length, 840mm width and 1,360mm height.

The Himalayan will sit on a wheelbase of 1,465mm and will have ground clearance and seat height at 220mm and 800mm respectively. Kerb weight stands at 182 kgs while fuel tank has the capacity for 15 liters. No prices have been revealed but estimates put the Royal Enfield Himalayan in a price bracket of INR 1.8-2.2 lakhs.
