Details of the 2020 Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 imaes have been leaking every now and then. The latest scoop is that the updated medium displacement adventure tourer has arrived at dealership. It can be reserved for a booking amount of INR 10,000. Hat tip to Neelesh Bajaj for sharing these images.

As reported earlier, the Himalayan BS6 will be available in three new dual-color themes with primary accents being Rocky Red, Lake Blue and Gravel Grey. These colour schemes were showcased at the EICMA show in Milan last year.

Considering that the Royal Enfield Himalayan’s 411 cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine is already equipped with electronic fuel injection system, the BS6 conversion is likely to primarily involve ECU tweaks and improvements to the catalytic converter. We don’t expect any significant changes to the motorcycle’s power and torque outputs which currently stand at 24.5 hp and 32 Nm respectively. The gearbox will continue to be a 5-speed unit.

Thanks to leaked images, it is seen with a smaller spoke wheel, MRF dual-purpose tyres (current one employs CEAT units), revised instrument cluster were the noticeable changes. Also, the dual-channel ABS now appears to be switchable for better off-road performance.

The 2020 RE Himalayan is estimated to be around INR 10,000 to 12,000 more expensive than the BS4 version. With eagerly anticipated KTM 390 Adventure on the horizon, RE is expected to be aggressive with the pricing of its adventure tourer. For reference, the Himalayan currently retails at 1.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Despite a price hike, the Himalayan is still expected to undercut is upcoming rival by a significant margin.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 is expected to be accompanied by the Classic 350 BS6 which has already been launched with EFI, additional catalytic converter and new colour options.

RE’s family of 500 cc motorcycles (Electra, Thunderbird and Classic) are discontinued. Their successors based on the all-new J platform are expected to hit the market sometime later in the year. The whole auto industry is hoping for a shot in the arm and we hope the BS6 transition gives just that.
