Royal Enfield Pegasus Classic 500 detailed in 60 Photos

Royal Enfield has officially launched the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus at a ceremony held in the UK. Limited to just 1,000 units, 250 of which will go on sale in India, the limited edition model is inspired by RE/WD Flying Flea 125 motorcycles which were manufactured during the World War II era at the company’s underground facility in Westwood, UK.

Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus, priced at £4,999 (INR 4.5 lakhs) will be open for online booking from July 2018. It will be offered in two color options of Service Brown and Olive Drab Green. Though it has to yet be confirmed if the Olive Green color will be permitted for sale in India.

Each Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus will sport a unique serial number engraved onto the fuel tank in memory of the 250th Airborne Light Company that served during World War II. It will also receive a maroon and blue Pegasus emblem – the official Parachute Regiment insignia on the fuel tank and the famous Royal Enfield – Made Like a Gun – decal on battery box in memory of the motorcycle’s heritage.

Apart from proudly sporting the Pegasus logo on military style canvas panniers, onboard features will include brown handlebar grips, leather strap with brass buckles on air filter, blackened silencers, rims and kick start lever along with blackened pedals and headlamp bezel.

At the height of the Second World War, Royal Enfield made a resilient 125cc motorcycle designed to be deployed behind enemy lines via parachutes and onboard the Horsa Glider to provide communications support along with acting as a quick mobility platform for the forward units of the Airborne Pegasus Regiment across key operations such as D-Day and Market Garden. Officially designated the ‘RE/WD 125’ it was more fondly recalled as ‘The Flying Flea’ by the men who rode it.

Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus is powered by a 499cc, air cooled, single cylinder engine offering 27.2 bhp power at 5,250 rpm and 41.3 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm and have kerb weight of 194 kgs. Special gear, inspired by this classic bike, and sporting the Pegasus insignia, will also be available among which will be shirts and tee shirts, caps, pins, bags and helmets.
