Priced a little expensive than the A Class diesel (Rs 21.93 lakh), which was launched in India in May this year, the new B Class diesel features the same 2.2l mill generating 109 hp at 3200 rpm and 250 Nm torque @ 1400-2800 rpm. Transmission of power to the front wheel is taken care by automatic 7 speed Dual Clutch Transmission.
Dimensions stand at 4359 x 1786 x 1557 (L x W x H) and wheelbase is at 2699 mm. This is slightly more when compared to the A Class, which stands at 4292 x 1780 x 1433, wheelbase is of same length. Top speed of this is at 190 kmph, whereas mileage as per ARAI certification stands at 18.98 kmpl. Kerb weight at 1565 kgs, while turning radius is of 5.5 m. Boot Capacity is at 486 to 1545 liters.
Speaking about sales, Mercedes Benz did not reveal their expectations from the B Class diesel, but they did reveal that they have sold over 500 units of B Class petrol which was launched in September last year, priced Rs 21.49 lakh. The new B Class is the company’s fifth launch in the current year and comes after G63 AMG, GL Class, A Class, and E Class. Built on Mercedes Modular Front Architecture platform, that is also seen on the A Class, though it will be available only in the ‘Style’ trim. This means that the diesel variant will be introduced minus its panoramic sunroof, while it will sit on 16” alloy wheels as against 17” wheels.
