Safer Roads, Safer You by Goodyear Tyres India

Safer Roads, Safer You initiative will see selected drivers enjoy complimentary training in Delhi NCR and Mumbai. The development comes as a road safety programme initiated by Goodyear India in association with Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE).

With road fatality in India being a serious concern, road behavior must change.  Public transport commute continues to be time-consuming, and in some instances delayed with last mile connectivity being a concern on a multitude of routes. Each passing day sees vehicular traffic in the country continues to grow unabated, and smart cities remain a distant dream.

Road safety isn’t limited to accident prevention alone. The approach must be holistic, and overall road travelling experience must be improved. Improving driver training is one such solution as it can directly impact driving quality positively.  Safer Roads, Safer You programme by Goodyear Tyres looks to support taxi operators and fleet owners through driver training. The end result, it’s hoped will aid curb traffic rule violations, making taxi services friendly, law-abiding and safe.

Safer Roads, Safer You training programme has been ongoing through December 2015 to March 2016. The selected 2,555 drivers in Delhi and Mumbai underwent a day-long workshop. Attendees were grouped in batches of 20. Training programme includes road safety awareness, defensive driving, passenger comfort and safety, vehicle maintenance, personal management and incident management.

Safer Roads, Safer You participants were given Rs 500 as incentive, and complimentary accidental death Insurance policy of Rs. 2,00,000. Each participant was provided a certificate on successful completion of the workshop.

Goodyear India has stepped in to sponsor the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) initiative. The latter has upward of 15 years’ experience in providing safer roads for users. Taxi services are crucial when it comes to handling tourists and regular commute.  Radio taxi services have positively grown as an indispensable public transport means in multiple cities, going on to increase market share in the transport segment.

Dr. Rohit Baluja, President, Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) says the association with Goodyear India is aimed to improve customer service standards and curb traffic violations. The development is keen to improve trust-worthiness of taxi services and public transportation system.
