Sebastian Vettel 2nd in US Grand Prix 2012: Lucky or unlucky 13 points lead

Sebastian Vettel finished second at the United States Grand Prix held on November 19, 2012 thus clinching the 2012 Constructors title for his team and Renault. Starting from pole position at the Circuit of Americas in Austin, Texas, Vettel was up ahead until lap 42 after which he was overtaken by Lewis Hamilton who whizzed past clinching a win by just 0.6 seconds.

Fernando Alonso finished third and Vettel is in a 13 point lead over Alonso as they now head for the Brazilian GP next week. Finishing sixth and seventh were Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean with Kimi being in the top four early in the race but quickly losing his position when he was overtaken by Massa and Button.

Romain continued ahead, but an early pit stop saw him lag behind giving the team a double point finish and 4th position in constructors’ championship ratings. Renault engines were in the limelight during the event with Williams F1 Team Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna finishing 9th and 10th ensuring five Renault engines in top 10 positions.
