Set to employ around 5,000 people, the new Shell Global IT Center in Bengaluru was announced by the company on Friday. It will cater to the needs of marketing, projects, information technology as well as downstream refining and upstream oil and gas production businesses.
Shell Global IT Center will be located on RMZ Eco World spread over an area of 350,000 sq ft. This is in the first phase of development which the company is set to occupy by April 2016. The second phase of expansion will allow the company to occupy 800,000 sq ft by 2018 offering IT support to all business verticals.
Bengaluru is specifically selected due to the pool of IT talent available in the city catering to the precise needs of Shell. As on date, Shell employs a host of people in India while 1,000 scientists and engineers are employed at the company’s Bengaluru office and business operations center in Chennai. Shell also has an IT base in Malaysia, US and UK,with its global IT jobs being shifted to Bengaluru. The new global IT center in Bengaluru will be called The Shell IT Center Bengaluru.
The proposed SEZ is currently under construction and RMZ Eco World is located at Bengaluru’s Sarjapur outer ring road area. Besides Shell, it will also house other multinationals such as KPMG, SAP, Morgan Stanley, ANZ and Honeywell among others.
