Shreya Sunder Iyer has become the first woman to be a part of any racing team in India. The 24 year old will represent TVS Racing in the upcoming Indian National Rally Championships later this year.
Shreya, a keen racing aficionado has been riding since the age of 17. Besides being the first woman to be a part of any racing team in India, she has many firsts to her name. She has been the first Indian woman rider to complete a ride across the sand dunes in Dubai while her adventures have also taken her to the Suru valley in the Himalayas. She has also completed the South Indian biking expedition across 2000 kms in 6 days.
While this 24 year old expects to make a career in cross country rally racing, her joining the TVS Racing team will take her racing career to a new level. Her appointment on the team gives hope to other young bikers and to women bikers in particular that they should follow their dreams to make riding and racing a career.
TVS Racing Team Head Arvind Pangaonkar announced the appointment of Shreya Iyer on the team while TVS Racing continues to make concerted efforts to introduce this sport to all sections of society. TVS Racing goes back 33 years following the introduction of 50cc mopeds by Sundaram Clayton Limited.
Since then TVS Racing has conducted both on and off road racing events that include road racing, Super-cross and Motocross besides Dirt Track and Rally racing. As the first Indian factory team to have participated in the Dakar rally, TVS Racing has received 8 championship wins last year.
