All-new Tata Sierra has received an overwhelming response with over 70,000 bookings registered in just 24 hours

Cracking the highly competitive 4.2m – 4.4m SUV segment is a challenging task. But the all-new Sierra has made it look quite effortless. All thanks to the SUV’s legendary status, distinctive design, segment-first features, powerful engine choices and robust safety net. After the launch and price reveals, Sierra’s deliveries are scheduled to commence from 15th January. Let’s check out the details.

Sierra production in full swing

Ahead of the start of Sierra’s deliveries, production is in full swing at Tata’s Sanand plant in Gujarat. Faster deliveries will play a key role in sustaining the high demand for the SUV. A long waiting period can potentially prompt buyers to explore other options. Sustaining demand becomes even more critical in the 4.2m – 4.4m segment, which has various other formidable rivals.

All-new Sierra is competing against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate and Volkswagen Taigun. This segment will soon have new entrants such as the new-gen Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton. With intensifying competition, it is imperative that carmakers aim for the lowest waiting period.

Tata Sierra will be playing a key role in helping the brand increase its market share in the SUV segment. With massive bookings, it is already evident that the all-new Sierra is all set to emerge as the new growth driver for Tata Motors. The company already commands a market share of 16-17% in the SUV space.

With the Sierra, the company is looking to increase its market share to 20-25%. Beyond competing within the segment, the Sierra could also expand the 4.2m–4.4m SUV segment by attracting buyers from both lower and higher segments. This trend has been seen earlier as well when something truly exciting and worthwhile is available in the market.

Sierra production goals

As per initial plans, the production target for all-new Sierra was planned at around 7,000 units per month. However, with good market feedback, the production goals have been increased to around 12,000 to 15,000 units per month. These numbers were reported in November, which may have changed depending on the overall bookings received beyond the first 24 hours.

With the Sierra, Tata could be aiming to enter among the top 2 or top 3 rankings in the 4.2m – 4.4m SUV segment. As of November 2025, Creta leads this space with a market share of 28%. Maruti Victoris is second, followed by Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.

Sierra is currently available with three engine options. There’s a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that generates 106 PS and 145 Nm of torque. It is offered with transmission options of 6MT and 7DCA. The 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine generates 160 PS and 255 Nm. It is paired with a 6AT transmission. The 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engine generates 118 PS and is offered with transmission options of 6MT and 6AT. Torque output is 260 Nm with the manual and 280 Nm with the automatic. Tata will be launching the EV version of Sierra later this year.
