It was Apple’s voice activated Siri that saved the life of a teenager when he was trapped under the wheels of his truck.

On July 2, 2015, Sam Ray, 18, from Tennessee was fixing his truck at home when the jack gave way and the truck came crashing down.

Ray was all alone at home when the incident occurred and while his ribs were broken, kidney crushed and arms were trapped, he realized his phone was in his back pocket. Ray managed to activate Siri using his butt cheeks, allowing his iPhone to call 911 emergency services.

Operators initially thought the call was a prank or an accidental call, but hearing the teens cry for aid immediately decided to act on the call. Operators dispatched assistance to Ray’s residence in a suburb in Nashville by triangulating the signal from his mobile phone.

Rescue workers quickly pulled Ray out from under the truck after which he was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was treated for severely broken ribs, a bruised kidney, burns and cuts along with concussion.

I guess I’m stuck with an iPhone for the rest of my life. I owe them that. – Ray

Ray has improved since. He did not really care for his iPhone till the incident and was keen on changing his phone to a Samsung Galaxy. However, the accident and the part Siri played in saving his life indicates that the two will not be apart anytime in the future.
