Skoda first premiered Fabia in 1999. Over the last 15 years, they have sold over 3 million Fabia’s globally. Now, with the third gen variant, which is shorter and wider than the existing Fabia, Skoda aims to achieve even further reach.
The new variant is based on lightweight Volkswagen MQB platform, which has helped engineers achieve a kerb weight which is at 980 kgs. Exteriors feature an aerodynamic look with sharper design cues. The front resembles new Skoda family cars like the Octavia and Superb with trademark grille. Compared to the current gen Fabia, the rear will have a more chiselled look with a protruding boot-lip and a floating roof.
2015 Fabia will continue to be a sub 4 meter car, but the new one will be much sportier to look at. It will also efficient and powerful engine options in both petrol and diesel trim. The MQB platform will now accommodate their new range of 1.0l petrol three cylinder (in two tunes 59 bhp and 74 bhp) and 13 cyl 1.4l diesel engine. Apart from these, the trusted 1.2l four cylinder generating 109 bhp will also be on offer.
A completely new car, 2015 Fabia will also get an all-new dashboard design. Expect premium interiors with leather seats, multifunction 6.5 inch touchscreens, steering mounted controls, SD Card slot, USB input, Bluetooth, Navigation, improved NVH levels, a best in class boot space of 330 liters and Skoda’s new mirror-link display system. This system allows you to mirror your smartphone’s screen (regardless of the phone’s OS) on to the car’s touchscreen, thereby giving you access to your phone’s app with voice and touch controls.
Safety features includes airbags, ABS, multicollision brake, hill assist, park assist, ESC, rain sensing wiper, auto headlamps, etc. It is also reported, that Skoda has developed a new system which collects all driving data and keeps a track of the same by sending it to the owner’s phone via a connected app.
Before the car goes on display at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Skoda is expected to officially unveil the new Fabia in their home country, where all details will be revealed. Sales will commence later this year, or early next year.
