Skoda India starts production of Rapid at their plant in Chakan near Pune

Czech car manufacturer, Skoda Auto has announced that they have started the production of their new sedan named Rapid at their manufacturing unit in Chakan near Pune. Skoda Rapid is a made for India sedan as the manufacturer has kept the needs of Indian car buyers in mind while designing the car.

Dr Winfried Vahland, Chairman of the Board of Management, Skoda Auto India, said, “Today is the official Start of Production for the Indian variant of our new Rapid compact saloon. Effective immediately, the first unit of the SKODA Rapid will be rolling off the line in this plant. The car will be introduced in the market shortly. It is an attractive car with lots of space and room for five persons.”

The initiation of production of Skoda Rapid in India is a part of their plan to introduce new models in India and doubling their annual sales figures by 2018. Dr Chacko, Chief Representative India, VW Group, said, “SKODA has always been an integral part of the plant in Chakan. The first car that was produced at this plant was a SKODA Fabia, and we are happy to roll-out the SKODA Rapid on this occasion. I take this opportunity to congratulate the Volkswagen and SKODA teams for this success that has been achieved as a result of their synergies.”

Skoda Rapid will enter the Indian auto industry as a mid-sized sedan segment where cars like Maruti Suzuki SX4, Hyundai Verna Fluidic and Nissan Sunny sedan are competing.
