Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has achieved a key manufacturing milestone with 50,000 units of the Skoda Kylaq produced within a year, reinforcing the Group’s strong commitment to the Government of India’s Make in India initiative. While cumulative retail sales stood at 46,872 units by December 2025, the 50,000-unit production mark has been reached in January 2026, accounting for volumes produced and dispatched in the new calendar year.
The Kylaq, Skoda’s first sub-4-meter SUV for India, has emerged as a major growth driver for the Group and played a significant role in delivering 36 percent year-on-year growth in 2025. This growth has been supported by increased manufacturing scale, higher localisation levels and sustained demand across the year.

Sales performance through 2025
As per the month-wise sales data from January to December 2025, Skoda Kylaq recorded 46,872 units, translating to an average of 3,906 units per month. The shortfall between cumulative 2025 sales and the 50,000-unit milestone is explained by January 2026 production and dispatches, which are not reflected in the 2025 sales table.
Leadership comments and Make in India focus
The milestone celebration was attended by H. D. Kumaraswamy, Union Cabinet Minister of Heavy Industries and Minister of Steel, who congratulated Skoda Auto Volkswagen India for its continued commitment to domestic manufacturing and localisation.
Commenting on the achievement, Piyush Arora, MD & CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, said the 50,000-unit milestone reflects the strong trust customers have placed in the Kylaq. He added that the model’s success validates the Group’s strategy of designing and engineering vehicles in India, for India and global markets, on the MQB-A0-IN platform.
Capacity expansion and localisation push
To support Kylaq volumes, SAVWIPL has increased production capacity at its Chakan plant by 30 percent, while strengthening engagement with domestic suppliers to achieve deeper localisation. This effort is part of a broader focus on scale, cost competitiveness and long-term supplier partnerships.
According to the company, the Kylaq’s production milestone is also the outcome of 25 years of sustained investment in local talent and ecosystem development in India. As Skoda Auto Volkswagen India continues to expand its product portfolio and manufacturing output, localisation and manufacturing excellence remain central to its long-term strategy. With production now crossing the 50,000-unit mark and sales momentum continuing into 2026, the Skoda Kylaq has firmly established itself as a cornerstone of the Group’s India growth story.
