January 2013 will see launch of new 2013 Skoda Octavia. Production is in full swing and the company has revealed that the new Octavia sedan will be lighter in weight but enhanced in size due to the fact that it will be based on the VW MQB platform. As compared to its predecessor, the 2013 Skoda Octavia will also be more emission efficient with engines emitting 23% less CO2. The vehicle will come in with 4 TSI petrol engines and 4 TDI diesel engines.
For the petrol options, entry level 1.2L TSI Octavia 2013 will deliver 86 hp & 160 Nm torque with a mileage of 19.23 kmpl. Transmission will be taken care by a five speed MT. The 1.2L TSI Green tec Octavia will deliver 105 hp & 185 Nm torque with a mileage of 20.4 kmpl. This one is also available with 7 speed DSG automatic apart from the standard six speed MT. The 1.4 TSI is offered with either a six speed MT or DSG seven speed. It generates 140 hp & 250 Nm torque and delivers a mileage of 18.86 kmpl. Top of the line 1.8 TSI delivers 180 hp & 250 Nm torque with a mileage of 17.54 kmpl.
For diesel options in the new Skoda Octavia, you have, entry level 1.6 TDI generating 90 hp and delivering a mileage of 24.39 kmpl. The Green tec option delivers 105 hp & 250 Nm torque with start/stop and manual five-speed transmission along with mileage of 26.31 kmpl. There is also a Green Line 1.6 TDI on offer, that delivers 110 hp and 29.41 kmpl mileage. It comes with a manual six speed MT. Top of the line 2.0L TDI Green Tec offers 150 hp & 320 Nm torque and is mated with a six speed DSG AT which delivers 22.22 kmpl.
Scheduled to arrive in India, 2013 Skoda Octavia will replace the current Skoda Laura. Being based on an MQB platform means that weight and performance will be accentuated while fuel consumption will also be an added advantage. This will also mean that the company will be able to price upcoming model more competitively closer to its outgoing one.
In India, production is set to take place at the company’s CKD plant in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The 2013 Skoda Octavia will have advanced features such as LCD display with rear view camera, driver fatigue detection system and is scheduled for launch in the country just ahead of the Diwali 2013 season.
