What’s more interesting is that new Skoda Rapid will also get a DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) auto variant, similar to one seen in VW Vento TSI. It is unclear if DSG will be mated to new 1.5 diesel engine or just the petrol unit, but Skoda is certainly planning to up their ante.
It is obvious that Skoda is trying to push Rapid as a significant and high volume car in India. Sudhir Rao, Managing Director of Skoda India, believes that the company has to adapt to Indian market and Rapid will be used to experiment on ways to suit Indian customers’ tastes.
Rapid sedan has been the best-seller model for Skoda India; sold around 44,000 units since November 2011 launch. With major upgrades such as aforementioned new engine and auto gearbox, and some Indian-friendly enhancements, Skoda expects make Rapid more appealing. However, quality and luxury quotient would not be disturbed. On studying response and results of new Rapid, similar revamps will be carried out on other variants.
