Compact SUV sales continues to infuse excitement into the automotive scene. November 2019 sees Maruti Suzuki Brezza retain top spot in the segment. Sales decline stood at 16 percent, down to 12,033 units from 14,378 units sold in November 2018. However, despite reduced sales volume, the numbers were great enough to lead.
Hyundai Venue, introduced quite recently sold a healthy 9,665 units, missing the 10k mark by a whisker. Tata Nexon, which has enjoyed popularity within the brand portfolio has reported sales decline.
It’s top safety rating has bolstered its market reputation but nothing has helped the brand reach the top of the table. Even the newly launched Venue has attained that title. Tata Nexon sales fell by 19 percent, down to 3,437 units from 4,224 units sold in Nov ’18.
Ford EcoSport sales gained marginally at 4 percent. Sales grew to 2,822 units from 2,724 units. As has been the pattern, the battle between Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport continues to be a closely contested one.
Mahindra XUV300, another brand new vehicle for India sold 2,224 units. Mahindra has now introduced XUV300 BSVI petrol variant. This is the company’s first BSVI offering as the industry moves towards new emission mandates from April 1, 2020.
Honda WRV reports the steepest sales decline percentage at 74. Sales volume contracted to 721 units from 2,724 units. Mahindra TUV300 sales fell 31 percent, down to 683 units from 992 units sold a year earlier.
For Mahindra, though XUV300 is the more recent launch, it’s done way better than TUV300 ever since launch. Tata Nexon facelift with BSVI will be launched soon. However, it’s too early to say if that will help boost sales, if at all. XUV300 sales at the end of December will in some way project if the introduction of BSVI has been helpful.
As far as competition is concerned, last month cumulative sales of Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Honda WRV and Mahindra TUV300 were just a wee bot more than the number of Venue units sold. As seen in the recent past, if Maruti Brezza’s dominion is to be challenged in any way, only Hyundai Venue seems capable enough to do so.
