SsangYong X100 will launch in Korea and Europe initially. Its exteriors have been inspired by the Concept XLV seen at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in early March this year. Apart from this, The SsangYong XLV Concept was also on exhibit at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show earlier this month.
As against the XLV which was seen as a spacious 7 seater, the X100 will be a 5 seater model. X100 is being built on a completely new platform and will be positioned beneath the Korando C SUV. It will be powered by a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol engine with pricing expected to commence from £15,000 (INR 15.2 lakhs). It is this very model which will propel SsangYong sales ahead as the company plans to increase sales two fold over the next three years.
Expected to be launched by January 2015, the upcoming compact SUV will meet stiff competition from the Nissan Juke, Ford EcoSport, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Mokka.
