SsangYong Musso pick-up unveiled – Based on the new Rexton (Mahindra XUV700)

The 3rd generation SsangYong Musso follows a design inspired by the Rexton SUV.

Set to compete against the likes of Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara and Ford Ranger, the new 3rd gen SsangYong Musso was revealed at 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It follows a new design as compared to its earlier counterpart with more ruggedness but with premium features. Design elements on the SsangYong Musso include a distinctive grille and swept back headlamps.

It follows a body on frame construction as seen on the Rexton which is 81.7% high tensile steel. Enhanced rigidity relates to better safety while road handling and off road abilities are also augmented.

The new Musso measures 5,095mm in length, 1,950mm in width and 1,840mm in height. It gets 215mm ground clearance and receives short overhangs. The load deck gets a rear door that folds flat to offer better space and the wooden base is strong enough for transporting heavy industrial goods.

Upgrades are also seen in the interiors of the new 5 seater SsangYong Musso. It gets a new dashboard design with a centrally mounted 8.0” touchscreen with DAB radio, Bluetooth and MP3 connectivity while higher spec models get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

SsangYong Musso is powered by a 2.2 liter turbodiesel engine tweaked for added power and performance. The engine offers 184 bhp peak power and 420 Nm peak torque which is 5hp and 20 Nm more than its earlier counterpart.

The engine is mated to a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. No pricing details have been revealed by SsangYong as on date but the current Musso is priced from £16,795 exclusive of taxes so a marginal price increase over this is what is expected.
