SsangYong Tivoli compact crossover which was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year has been spotted testing once again. The objective of the showcase was to gather public opinion but Mahindra has not confirmed Tivoli’s launch in India yet.

The Tivoli being tested in India indicates that Mahindra could be readying the crossover to be launched in the country. There is also another possibility.

The Tivoli could be testing the platform on behalf of its Mahindra sibling, the S201 (codename).

It’s worth noting that the Indian UV specialist is working on its own compact crossover which will be based on the Tivoli’s X100 platform. An earlier report suggested that Mahindra is in talks with its subsidiary to secure permission to employ the platform in question.

Mahindra’s version of Tivoli is codenamed as S201 and this Tivoli prototype could be testing the underpinnings on behalf of its Indian sibling. The Mahindra S201 is expected to be a sub-4 metre version to take on the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. A longer derivative could also be on the cards to take on the immensely popular Hyundai Creta.

Anyway, it’s a bit too early to speculate. Coming back to Tivoli, the crossover is available with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines in the international market. Both manual and automatic transmissions are on offer.
