The company is also gearing up to launch the e2o in the UK.

In what is a good news for the country’s sole electric car maker Mahindra Reva, several startups in the transportation industry are looking to up their green credentials by inducting fleets of electric vehicles. Talking to Livemint, Arvind Mathew, CEO of Mahindra’s EV division, said that the company is working with a few startups to boost the Mahindra e2o electric city car’s sales.

While he didn’t divulge any details about the expected sales from these startups, Livemint estimates the cumulative order to reach 1,250 units in the next one year. While this may not seem much as a stand alone figure, it is indeed a significant shot in the arm for the company, considering that it managed to sell only around 1,000 units of the green car last fiscal.

The bulk orders from startups are expected to nearly double the e2o’s sales this year.

The startups in question include Lithium Urban Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (an electric vehicle fleet operator for corporates), Myles (self-drive wing of Carzonrent India) and Dreamz Mynewcar Pvt. ltd. which operates the Mynewcar.in website. The first two companies are already operating their own fleets of e2o while the third company has recently tied up with two Gurgaon-based firms to deliver 500 Mahindra e2o cars to be used as taxis.

Since these startups employ the vehicles for commercial purposes, the operations will involve high usage and predictable routes. Both these parameters are conducive for the application of electric vehicles.
