The sub-compact SUV segment (3.8 to 4 meters) witnessed robust growth in December 2024, with total sales of 89,008 units compared to 76,811 units in December 2023, marking a significant 15.88% year-on-year growth. Here’s how individual models fared:
Sub 4m SUV Sales Dec 2024 – YoY Comparison
Maruti Brezza retained its dominance, leading the segment with 17,336 units sold, a remarkable 34.97% YoY growth compared to 12,844 units in December 2023. Tata Punch, including its EV variant, secured the second spot with 15,073 units, registering a 9.33% growth over last year’s 13,787 units. Recently updated Tata Nexon, including its EV model, slipped to the third position with 13,536 units, reflecting an 11.44% decline from December 2023’s 15,284 units. Maruti Fronx showed consistent growth, selling 10,752 units, up 10.94% from last year’s 9,692 units. Hyundai Venue maintained its steady position with 10,265 units, a marginal decline of 1.14% compared to 10,383 units sold last December.
Mahindra XUV3X0 recorded an impressive 97.18% growth, selling 7,000 units in December 2024 against 3,550 units in December 2023. On the other hand, Hyundai Exter saw a significant drop of 29.88%, selling 5,270 units compared to 7,516 units last year. Kia Sonet witnessed an extraordinary jump with 3,337 units sold in December 2024, compared to just 10 units in December 2023, reflecting an astronomical 33,270% growth. Toyota Taisor with 2,628 units sold, further boosting the segment.
Meanwhile, Nissan Magnite saw a minor decline of 1.53%, selling 2,117 units compared to 2,150 units last year. Maruti Jimny showed notable growth with 1,100 units sold, a 50.68% increase from 730 units in December 2023. Renault Kiger, however, struggled with sales of 594 units, a 31.33% decline compared to 865 units sold last December.

Maruti Brezza continued its dominance in December 2024, with a significant 16.21% month-on-month (MoM) growth. Sales increased from 14,918 units in November to 17,336 units, showcasing its strong market position. Tata Punch, including its EV variant, witnessed a marginal dip of 2.35%, with December sales at 15,073 units compared to 15,435 units in November.
Tata Nexon, including the EV variant, recorded an 11.70% decline MoM, with sales dropping from 15,329 units in November to 13,536 units in December. Maruti Fronx experienced a notable decrease of 27.75%, with sales falling from 14,882 units in November to 10,752 units in December.
Hyundai Venue showed resilience with a 5.24% growth MoM, as sales rose from 9,754 units in November to 10,265 units in December. On the other hand, Mahindra XUV3X0 sales decreased by 8.57%, with December sales at 7,000 units compared to 7,656 units in November. Hyundai Exter also recorded an 8.30% decline, with sales dropping from 5,747 units in November to 5,270 units in December. Kia Sonet faced the steepest drop in the segment, with sales declining by 63.94%, from 9,255 units in November to 3,337 units in December.
Toyota Taisor also witnessed a significant drop of 27.40%, with sales falling from 3,620 units in November to 2,628 units in December. Nissan Magnite registered a 9.61% decline, with sales reducing from 2,342 units in November to 2,117 units in December. However, Maruti Jimny saw an 11.34% growth, as sales rose from 988 units in November to 1,100 units in December. Renault Kiger, meanwhile, dropped by 23.75%, with sales decreasing from 779 units in November to 594 units in December.
