Maruti Brezza, the No.1 sub-4m SUV in Oct 2024 lost out to the Tata Punch and Nexon in Nov 2024
Sales in the sub 4m category have crossed well over the 1 lakh unit mark, showing off a healthy YoY growth. However, its MoM performance finished in the red as overall automobile sales diminished in the past month. Sales of the 12 sub 4m SUVs stood at 1,00,705 units in Nov 2024, up 15.52% over 87,174 units sold in Nov 2023. It was however a 7.82% MoM decline from 1,09,247 units sold in Oct 2024. On a MoM basis, it was only the Nexon/EV and Toyota Taisor that showed improved demand while every other model suffered a setback.
Sub-4 m SUV Sales Nov 2024
Tata Punch headed this list with 15,435 unit sales with a 7.31% YoY improvement from 14,383 unit sales of Nov 2023. Punch commanded a 15.33% market share. MoM sales however, declined by 1.94% from 15,740 units sold in Oct 2024. In Oct 2024, the Punch lineup underwent a revamp with to of its trim levels in both Petrol and CNG options have been cut.
Also from the Tata stables was Nexon/EV. Sales stood at 15,329 unit sales in the past month. This was a 2.77% YoY and 3.86% MoM growth. Market share also improved to 15.22% from 13.51% MoM. Tata Motors has regained No 1 position in the sub 4m SUV segment for Nov 2024.
Maruti Brezza, which was the No. 1 best-selling sub 4m SUV in Oct 2024, fell to No. 3 last month. Sales stood at 14,918 units which was an 11.39% YoY growth. However, MoM sales fell by 9.94% from 16,565 units sold in Oct 2024.
Maruti recorded high demand for the Fronx in Nov 2024. Sales went up by 50.83% to 14,882 units, up from 9,867 units sold in Nov 2023. MoM sales however suffered a 9.36% decline from 16,419 units sold in Oct 2024. In Oct 2024, the Fronx also reached the 2 lakh sales milestone, the fastest passenger to reach this pitch in just 17.3 months since its launch in April 2023.
Hyundai Venue YoY and MoM Decline
Hyundai Venue sales dipped to 9,754 units last month. This related to a 12.75% YoY and 10.52% MoM de-growth. There had been 11,180 units and 10,901 units sold in Nov 2023 and Oct 2024 respectively. The Venue currently holds a 9.69% market share. Sales growth was recorded for the Kia Sonet. Sales went up to 9,255 units last month, a 43.87% YoY improvement from 6,433 units sold in Nov 2023. MoM sales however, fell by 4.58% from 9,699 units sold in Oct 2024.
The list also had the Mahindra XUV3X) with 7,656 unit sales and a 63.83% YoY growth. There was the Hyundai Exter with 5,747 units sold in the past month while it suffered a YoY and MoM decline. Toyota Taisor with 3,620 units sold last month saw its sales up by 17.08% MoM. Nissan Magnite (2,342 units), Maruti Jimny (988 units) and Renault Kiger (779 units) each suffered a MoM decline.
