
Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota HyRyder were among top performers in this segment in December 2025
After taking a look at the sub 4m SUV sales last month, now lets take a look at the sales performance of SUVs in the segment above. SUV sales in the 4.2m–4.4m segment continued to score well in Dec 2025 ending the year on a highly positive note. New entrants along with year-end buying momentum played an important role in boosting buyer sentiments. While top 3 positions were held by the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota HyRyder, check out the other leading SUVs that recorded the highest sales last month.
SUV Sales Dec 2025 (4.2 to 4.4m)
Total SUV sales in this segment stood at 48,197 units, a 13.5% YoY growth from 42,458 units sold in Dec 2024. This was a volume increase of 5,739 units. MoM sales however, ended lower by 22.1% from 61,888 units, relating to a 13,691 volume decline post-festive season sales of Nov 2025.

It was Hyundai Creta that has cemented its position atop this list for the past decade. Sales grew by 4.33% YoY to 13,154 units, up from 12,608 units with the Creta being the only model to surpass sales above the 10,000 unit mark. It however suffered a steep MoM decline from 17,344 units in Nov 2025. The Hyundai Creta will soon have to contend with new entrants into this segment, those being the all-new Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra and next-gen Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton.
At No. 2, the Maruti Grand Vitara maintained steady volumes as it showed improved YoY sales by 21.20% to 8,597 units, well over the 7,093 unit mark of Dec 2024. Currently commanding a 17.95% market share, the Grand Vitara saw its MoM sales decline by 24.18%. It was followed by Toyota HyRyder with 7,022 units sold last month, a 47.21% YoY growth but a 5.02% MoM decline.

Maruti Victoris, a relatively new entrant added 6,210 units to total sales tally though it suffered a steep 49.51% MoM decline. While Kia Seltos has seen a strong 54.38% YoY growth to 4,369 units from 2,830 units, its MoM sales have fallen by 30.71%. With the new gen Seltos deliveries starting this month, Kia is expected to get a sales boost.
Honda Elevate (2,289 units) and VW Taigun (1,778 units) have both seen decline in YoY sales. However, their MoM performance ended on a highly positive note recording double digit growth, taking up market share several notches. Mahindra BE6 EV accounted for sales of 1,481 units last month with a 3.09% market share. Its MoM sales increased by 12.71%.
Tata Curvv, Skoda Kushaq, MG ZS EV – Sales Dec 2025
Ranking lower down the sales list were models such as Tata Curvv, Skoda Kushaq and MG ZS EV. Each of these have suffered decline in sales. Curvv sales dipped 77.89% YoY to 1,104 units while Kushaq sales were lower by 61.14% at 958 units and ZS EV sales fell 41.49% to 502 units. However, these three models gained in MoM demand posting more positive results. Tata Sierra entered the charts with 219 units sold last month. With deliveries starting this month, Tata can expect boost sales boost in coming months.
Showing off the highest YoY growth was the Citroen C3 Aircross with 167 unit sold last month, a 73.06% rise from just 96 units sold in Dec 2024. MoM sales however fell sharply by 19.71%. MG Astor sales dipped to 112 units relating to a sizeable YoY and MoM decline. The Citroen Basalt had 104 unit sales last month and while YoY sales increased by 31.65%, it was a 24.83% MoM de-growth. There were just 59 units of the Mahindra XUV400 sold last month, substantially lower when compared to 1,296 units and 404 units sold in Dec 2024 and Nov 2025 respectively.
