The iconic Suzuki Jimny compact off-roader has made its re-entry into the Indonesian market at the 2016 GIIAS after a very long sabbatical. The pocket-sized 4×4 has been enjoying a huge fan following in the country.
The Jimny which is set to go on sale in Indonesia later this year will be imported into the nation as a completely built unit. Globally, the car has been soldiering on for years without any significant update.
The Jimny measures 3,695 mm in length, 1,600 mm in width, 1,705 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,250 mm. Ground clearance stands at 190 mm. Compact dimensions and high ground clearance make Jimny a very capable and agile off-roader.
The Indonesia spec Jimny is powered by a 1,328 cc four-cylinder MPFI petrol engine which is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The output figures have not been disclosed but the international-spec Jimny is rated at 83 PS and 110 Nm of torque.
A body exterior has aged well while the upright dashboard looks a bit old school. The Jimny gets new steering wheel, integrated audio system and dual-tone seat fabrics. Suzuki is also showcasing the first gen Jimny at GIIAS to highlight the nameplate’s iconic status.
Recent media reports suggest that Suzuki is working on a next generation Jimny based on the new global platform. It could have Indian as its primary production base.
