New Maruti Swift Racer RS Concept unveiled in Tokyo

Suzuki unveiled the new generation Swift hatchback in the last week of December 2016. Launched in Japan, the car is all set to be launched in India later this year. Ahead of that, a racy, sporty Swift Racer RS Concept model has been unveiled at 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Painted in brilliant shades of blue and neon green livery of the Suzuki’s MotoGP team, Team Suzuki Ecstar, Swift Racer RS Concept is seen with 17” alloy wheels, stripped out interiors, Recaro seating and roll cage. Though no engine details have been revealed as on date, it is expected that the 2017 Suzuki Swift Racer RS Concept will sport a 1.0 liter BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6 speed auto gearbox. Speaking about powerful versions of Swift hatchback, there is another one in the market, based on the old Swift. It has been created by the D-Language racing team from Japan. Not designed for public roads as it is not a street legal vehicle, the Suzuki Swift Sport has been made into a race car offering 350 hp power from the same 1.6-liter petrol engine seen on the regular Suzuki Swift Sport mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Engineers working on this exclusive Suzuki Swift have increased the 1.6 liter four cylinder engine output with a turbocharger while race spec parts and custom made accessories are better able to withstand added boost in power.

Interiors have been completely changed as it now boasts of race spec parts to include bucket seats, digital display for telemetry and a small steering wheel positioned closer to driver’s chest. A massive turbo boost is complemented by special components in the form of 295/30 Yokohama tyres pushing torque to the ground.

The race car also gets fitted with high downforce kit consisting of front splitter, enhanced rear wing and lower suspension. The modified Suzuki Swift weighs a little over 1000 kgs and has a power to weight ratio of 350 bhp/ton. Not meant to be seen on public roads, Japanese tuner D-Language has ensured that the 350 hp Suzuki Swift suiting it for use only on the race track.

Speaking about new 2017 Suzuki Swift, it will be seen with two powertrain options to include a 1.0 liter BoosterJet direct injection, turbo petrol engine while the India spec model of the new Swift will receive the same to engine options as seen on its current counterpart. These include a 1.2 liter K12 petrol engine tuned to offer 84 PS peal power and 1.3 liter DDiS diesel engine to offer 75 PS. To be offered in AMT as well as Manual transmission, new Swift could also get CVT and a smart hybrid system that is seen on other Maruti Suzuki models in India.
