Tata Altroz ALFA platform is versatile – MPV, SUV, sedan, electric, hybrid car possible

What was showcased as a concept 45X at the 2018 Auto Expo last year, will be showcased as a production ready car at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show on 5th March. Called Altroz, it is an all new Tata car which will also be their flagship hatchback, and sit above the Tiago and Bolt in company line-up. It will take on the likes of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20.

Over the last few days, Tata Motors has been teasing the Altroz, to keep the excitement high among enthusiasts and awaiting buyers. The latest teaser of Altroz, details the ALFA platform. ALFA stands for Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture. It is modern day platform, which is not only versatile for different body styles, but is also ready to deliver pure electric or hybrid cars of the future.

In the Tata Altroz ALFA platform teaser video below, you can see how this platform can be scaled to different dimensions, so as to accommodate different cars. To explain the same further, teaser video shows a sketch of small hatch below Altroz, a mini SUV (Hornbill) to sit below Nexon, a 3 row MPV to rival the likes of Maruti Ertiga, as well as a sedan. It also shows that the same platform can be powered by multiple engine and transmission options. Not only this, it is also future ready, and if need be, it can go electric or hybrid on all the body types.

Alfa platform has been developed keeping in mind to deliver maximum luggage space, rear legroom, and utility space around the driver. It comes with intelligent use of technology to deliver best in class safety features. Tata Motors said, “An Agile, Light, Flexible & Advanced platform, designed to suit different powertrains, & which caters to passenger’s needs – ALFA ARC is ready for its debut with the Altroz.” Pratap Bose, Design Head at Tata Motors said, “Great base for an exciting range of stunning cars!” Watch the teaser video below.

Tata Altroz features swept back LED headlamps, a lower front grille, angular front bumper, a rising window line and prominent shoulder. It also gets dual tone ORVMs, side indicators while features to the rear include LED tail lamps, a new tail gate design with chrome finisher. It gets segment leading alloy wheel sizes and larger wing mirrors along with a raked roofline which tapers to the rear.

On the inside, Altroz is expected to feature best in class cabin space and luggage space. It will also get features like ambient lighting, soft touch leather finish on the dashboard as well as door trims, steering mounted controls, hi-res MID on instrument panel, a large touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Tata Altroz will be powered by two engine options for now. These could be same options which we have seen on Nexon. Both engines will comply with BS VI emission norms.

To be launched later this year, around the Durga Puja / Navratri festive period, Tata Altroz could be priced between Rs.5.5-8.5 lakhs. In this price bracket it will compete against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno (Rs 5.45 -8.77 lakh), Honda Jazz (Rs 7.40-9.34 lakh) and Hyundai i20 (Rs 5.50-9.31 lakh).
