Dimensions – Tata Bolt is shorter in length than Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20 but taller than the two. Bolt measures 3,825 x 1,695 x 1,562 mm (Length x Width x Height) while Maruti Swift measures 3,850 x 1,695 x 1,530 mm and Hyundai Elite i20 reads 3985 x 1734 x 1505 mm. Bolt has average turning radius of 5.1 metre and lowest ground clearance of 165 mm (against 170 in other two). Boot volume of 210 litres is identical to Maruti Swift and i20 is again found to offer more.
Engine (Petrol) – Tata Bolt is powered by 1.2 litre Revotron turbocharged engine producing 90 PS max power @ 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm peak torque @ 1,500 – 4,000 rpm. Bolt is the most powerful hatchback in this comparison. Maruti Swift’s 1.2 litre K-Series engine delivers 84.3 PS and 115 Nm, while Hyundai i20’s 1.2 litre Kappa engine with Dual VTVT manages only 83 PS and 115 Nm. All engines here are mated to 5-speed manual transmission.
Mileage of Tata Bolt petrol is 17.57 kmpl, probably sacrificed for competitive power, as Maruti Swift guarantees 20.04 kmpl and Hyundai Elite i20 18.5 kmpl.

Engine (Diesel) – Diesel version of Tata Bolt is powered by same 1.3 litre MultiJet engine sourced from Fiat as seen in Maruti Swift. While the engine produces same 70 PS max power @ 4,000 rpm in both cars, peak torque of 190 Nm in Bolt has very good spread between 1,750 and 3,000 rpm, but in Swift it it obtained only at 2,000 rpm. Hyundai i20 diesel is propelled by 1.4 litre U2 CRDi engine developing 90 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 220 Nm @ 1,500 – 2,750 rpm. It is mated to 6-speed manual gearbox while the other two get 5-speed units.
Mileage of Tata Bolt diesel is 22.95 kmpl, which is higher than Hyundai Elite i20’s claim of 21.9 kmpl but much lower than Maruti Swift’s figure of 25.2 kmpl.

Price – Launch price of Tata Bolt petrol is in the range of 4.44 lakhs to 6.05 lakhs (ex-showrooom Delhi). Swift is priced between 4.57 lakhs and 6.11 lakhs, and Hyundai i20 is priced more premium between 5.22 lakhs and 6.85 lakhs. Diesel seekers can get the Bolt between Rs. 5.49 lakhs and 6.99 lakhs, which is more affordable than Swift’s price bracket of 5.76 lakhs to 7.20 lakhs and also i20’s 6.35 lakhs to 7.98 lakhs.
