Thanks to sales declining by a massive 60% in Aug 2019, Tata Motors has slipped to the 6th spot in the list of best selling car makers in India. Tata is now behind Maruti, Hyundai, Mahindra, Toyota and Honda. This is the first time that Tata has slipped to such a low ranking in the list, post the launch of their new age cars like Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Harrier.
Star performers in sales for Tata – Tiago, Nexon, Harrier – all have posted huge decline in sales; some even posting their lowest monthly sales till date. Tiago was the best selling Tata car for the month. Its sales stood at 3037 units in Aug 2019, down 67% from 9277 units sold in Aug 2018. Nexon was 2nd best selling at 2,275 units, Tigor 3rd at 833, Harrier 4th at 635 units.
In addition to the general slowdown which is prevalent these days, sales of Tata cars have also declined due to arrival of new rivals. In order to beat the slowdown, and to increase sales this festive season, Tata Motors has announced huge discount offers.
In addition to the regular cash discount and exchange offer, Tata is also offering corporate discount. Employees of 250 companies in India can avail the corporate discount offer. List of companies will be available at dealer.
As can be seen in the above table, Tata Tiago is offered at a discount of Rs 25,000, exchange offer of Rs 15,000 and corp discount of Rs 2,000. In all, taking the maximum benefit to Rs 42,000. Tata Nexon petrol is offered with a total discount of Rs 42,000 while the diesel Nexon is being offered at a total discount of Rs 52,000.
Tigor petrol and diesel variants come with Rs 30,000 cash discount, Rs 5,000 corporate discount and Rs 25,000 exchange offer. This takes the total discount offer on Tigor to Rs 60,000. Bolt and Zest are also available at a cash discount of Rs 70,000.
One of the highest discount benefit on offer is with the Tata Hexa. The flagship Tata is on offer with cash discount of Rs 50,000, plus Rs 10,000 corporate discount and Rs 35,000 exchange benefit. Total discount stands at Rs 95,000.
Tata’s newest car – the Harrier is also on offer at a discount. This is the first time that Tata Harrier is being sold at a discount. Tata Harrier cash discount is nil, but there is a corporate discount of Rs 5,000 and an exchange offer of Rs 35,000. Total discount benefit stands at Rs 40,000 on buying new Harrier.
