Tata car sales break up June 2019 – Tiago, Nexon on top, Harrier 4th

Tata Motors, like every other automaker in India, faced de-growth in June 2019. Taking sales of the PV segment which comprises of Nano, Tiago, Bolt, Zest, Tigor, Nexon, Safari and Hexa into account along with the recently introduced Harrier, sales stood at 13,361 units in the past month, down 27 percent as compared to sales in the same month of the previous year.

Tata Nano, of which Tata Motors has not produced even a single unit since January 2019 with only 1 unit sold since February 2019 is on its way out with 0 sales in June 2019. Tigor sales dipped 34 percent from 8,327 units sold in June 2018 to 5,537 units sold in the past month. The Tata Tigor received two new automatic variants in June 2019 – XMA and XZA priced at Rs.6.39 lakhs and Rs.7.28 lakhs respectively.

Sales of the Bolt and Zest also fell 84 percent and 46 percent respectively. Bolt sales dipped from 315 units to just 51 units while Zest sales fell from 972 units to 525 units in the months of June 2018 and 2019 respectively. During the past month, the company also resorted to a price increase by Rs.10,000 across models such as the Nexon, Safari, Hexa, Zest, Bolt.

Tata Tigor sub compact also saw diminishing sales by 46 percent dipping from 2,674 units sold in June 2018 to 1,438 units in the past month. The Tigor also got a variant reshuffle in June 2019 and is now available in two automatic petrol variants – XMA and top spec XZA+. Earlier, Tata Tigor was available with AMT only on the XZ variant which has now been discontinued.

While there were no sales of the Tata Sumo reported last month, sale of Nexon was the only one on the list to report positive sales though by just 1 percent. Sales of the Nexon which had stood at 4,148 units in June 2018 increased to 4,170 units in June 2019. The Tata Nexon also received a mild update last month and an increase in price of Rs. 11,000 across the board.

Tata Safari Storme sales fell 67 percent from 488 units sold in June 2018 to 161 units sold in the past month. The Tata Harrier, launched in India earlier this year is well received. Sales in the past month stood at 1,216 units while sales have just crossed the 10,000 unit mark. Tata Motors has also hiked prices of this premium SUV by Rs. 30,000 in June 2019 while dual tone color options of Calisto Copper with black roof and Orcus White with black roof have been added to the monotone palate.

Tata Hexa sales also dipped 67 percent in the past month to 253 units as compared to sales of 757 units in the same month of the previous year. Tata recently received an order from Bangladesh Army for the supply of 200 units of Hexa.
