A camouflaged Tata Kite (Glade) test mule has been caught on camera, enduring the brutal weather in the Himalayan range. The model is spotted testing across the nation thus far, from Ooty hills in Coimbatore to the Himalayas now.
What is to be badged Tata Glade, is an upcoming B-segment hatchback, getting ready to rival the likes of Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10, new Ford Figo and Chevrolet Beat. The car is the modern interpretation of the highly popular Tata Indica hatchback, which took a detour soon after its launch to serve as the national cab car. Tata Motors is expected to retain the Indica for the same purpose, and make Tata Glade its domestic alternative.
Tata Kite will be powered by an all-new indigenous 3-cylinder diesel engine with 1.05 litre displacement, which is expected to churn out 64 PS max power and 142 Nm peak torque, and be mated to 5-speed manual transmission. Petrol variant would be pushed by 1.2 litre engine. There are reports of alternate transmission systems planned for Tata Kite, like AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) or ECS (Electronic Clutch Module), but it is unclear which one will feature in the next big hatchback for the Indian automaker.
