Tata Motors is actively testing the production version of Tata H5X SUV. It was showcased in concept format at 2018 Auto Expo where it was seen with Tata’s new OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advances) architecture. This is a derivative of the same platform on which Land Rover Discovery Sport is positioned.
Tata H5X SUV is expected to launch sometime in 2019. The prototype on test was spied while it was going off-road testing.
It was under heavy camouflage and hence details were not distinct. However, the prototype was spotted with alloy wheels, clear side indicators, sharp shoulder lines and bulges towards the rear. It also gets a sloping roofline.
The grille is from Tata’s Impact Design philosophy in a hexagonal layout and H5X SUV will be the first Tata model to be based in this updated design language. Tata H5X concept measured 4,575mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,686 mm in height and it will sit on a 2,740 mm long wheelbase. The production spec variant is expected to be about the same dimensions.
It is believed that the SUV will be powered by Fiat’s 2.0 liter MultiJet II diesel engine which also powers the Jeep Compass. This engine is offered with manual and automatic transmission options.
On the 7 seater SUV (H7X), the engine will offer 170 bhp power and 350 Nm torque which will be more than the 140 bhp power and 320 Nm torque on 5 seater H5X. On both models, the engine will be mated to 6 speed manual and 9 speed automatic.
Once officially launched in India, Tata H5X, which will be positioned above the Hexa will compete against Jeep Compass.
