Tata Motors’ new flagship SUV, Harrier has been recently spied testing in the infamous traffic of Bangalore city. Helping the car in such a situation is the City Drive mode along with the creep functionality offered with the automatic transmission.
Creep function helps the car driver to drive without using accelerator in bumper to bumper traffic. All the driver has to do is press the brake when needed. The moment brakes are disengaged, the car will slowly move forward, even without pressing acceleration – thereby offering ease of driving experience in traffic situations.
Though Tata Harrier is a 5 seater SUV, it looks really massive on the road. It is based on Tata Motor’s OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture and features the latest Impact 2.0 design philosophy. This is a variation of Land Rover architecture on which the Discovery Sport and Jaguar E-Pace, the Range Rover Evoque are built. The OMEGA architecture uses more localized parts and components so as to keep prices at affordable levels.
Its most recent sighting, though under heavy camouflage, drew attention some exterior features. The Tata Harrier could get a slimmer front grille, contoured side profiles and a raked roofline along with large wheel sizes.
Interiors will featurequality features and class leading equipment in the new Harrier with a floating touchscreen display, automatic climate controls and electrically operated mirrors. Seating will be plush and comfortable with memory function while interiors will be spacious with sufficient head, shoulder and leg room. Where safety features are concerned, the SUV could get multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, hill descent control, electronic stability program and traction control.
Tata Harrier will be powered by a Fiat sourced 2.0 Multijet II diesel engine which also powers the Jeep Compass. This engine on Harrier will offer 140 PS via a 6 speed manual or automatic transmission. There is no confirmation of Tata Harrier petrol as on date while reports also suggest the possibility of a Harrier petrol-hybrid. The Tata Harrier could be priced between Rs 13-16 lakhs upon launch. It will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Maruti Vitara, Jeep Compass.
