A day spent at the Tata Hexa Experience Center in Gurgaon

Expected to be priced in the range of INR 12-18 lakh, Tata Hexa will be the new Tata flagship and compete with Mahindra XUV500, and even with the Toyota Innova Crysta to an extent.

To be launched in January 2017, Tata Motors has launched a customer-centric campaign which will allow interested buyers to test the Hexa in every way possible. Called Tata Hexa Experience Centre, we attended the first such event which took place in Gurgaon earlier this week.

Hexa being a family car, the essence of the event was to engage every member of your family, be it your kids, or your parents. For the driver in you, there is a small off-road track where you can test the Hexa’s off-roading capabilities, its 4×4 system, the driving modes, ABS, braking, and almost every feature on offer. And the best part is, your family can sit next to you when you are taking them on this fun activity.

Once you are done with your test drive, you can speak with experts from Tata Motors who are present at the venue. This will help you understand the car even better, and help you clear your doubts if you have any. In the meantime, your family can take a look at the multiple fun-filled activities lined-up at the venue. These include – mini coffee bar, special kids’ zone, a pet adoption zone and food kiosks.

Tata will soon bring the Hexa Experience Center to your city. Do check with your local Tata dealer about the same and make sure you pay a visit. The Hexa Experience Center is open for all and entry is free.

Already touted as the best Tata ever built below is a brief about the new Hexa. For a detailed review, read our Tata Hexa Review here.

Exteriors

With its contoured bonnet, aggressive front grille with the right amount of chrome, stylish lower bumper which embodies the scuff plates and fog lights, projector headlamps, LED DRLs above the fog light, all give the Hexa a very sport look.

On the side, Hexa gets five spoke machined 19 inch alloys wrapped around MRF 235/55 section rubber, plastic cladding on the lower part of the sides and wheel arches, roofline that aerodynamically merges into the D pillar and large enough windows for all three rows. Rear gets LED taillamps, scuff plates, twin exhaust, roof spoiler, and a big tata logo in between the taillights.

All in all, compared to the Aria, which looks more like an MPV, the Hexa looks more like a premium SUV.

Interiors

The variant in the images here, is the top-end XT variant. It gets all black dashboard with leather upholstery, leather seats, leather cover on the steering wheel, and piano black finish around the gear lever and touchscreen. It also gets dull silver inserts on the steering wheel.

The seats seem to have good cushioning, making it comfortable for passengers and driver. The space inside the cabin is also very impressive. Rear AC vents help the cabin to cool faster.

Unlike the seats in front two rows, the third row seats are bench seats, and not captain seats. But, they are split in 50-50 format, so as to make storage of luggage flexible.

Features

A total of four drive modes are on offer with the new Hexa. This can be selected by the driver from the steering mounted controls. The driver can see the modes on offer in the small TFT colour screen in between the two circular pods in the instrument panel.

New Hexa also offers ambient lighting, which you can select as per your mood from the touchscreen on the dashboard. The car will also be loaded with many more features including safety features like ABS, airbags, EBD, and so on.

Engine

Measuring 4,788 mm long, 1,903 mm wide, and 1,791 mm tall, under the hood, Hexa gets the company’s most powerful engine till date – 2.2 liter VARICOR 400 diesel engine. This engine is rated to deliver 154 hp power and 400 Nm torque. To be offered in a choice of 2WD and 4WD options, Tata Hexa will get 6 speed manual transmission. There is also a 6 speed AT on offer.
