The slowdown-defying sales performance by rivals MG Hector and Kia Seltos has put other premium crossovers like the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier in a tough spot. In a bid to counteract, both automakers are looking at hefty discounts this festive season.
The Jeep Compass can be bought with benefits of up to Rs 1.75 lakh during October at most of the outlets across the country. Save for the Limited Plus and Trailhawk top-end variants, all other trims are offered with tempting discounts. It is to be noted that the discounts may vary depending on the city and level of inventory at the dealerships.
As far as diesel variants are concerned, the entry-level Sport 4×2 variant is offered with a cash discount of INR 1.75 lakh while Sport Plus variant comes with savings of INR 1.25 lakh. The Longitude, Longitude Option and Limited trims carry benefits of up to INR 1.55 lakhs while the Limited Option gets cash discount and exchange bonus amounting to INR 1.75 lakhs.
Coming to petrol variants, Sport gets INR 86,000 discount while Sport Plus gets INR 75,000 discount. The automatic Longitude Option and Limited variants receive cash discount of INR 1.25 lakh. At INR 1.53 lakh, the Limited Option AT gets highest discount among petrol variants.
The Jeep Compass is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel unit. The diesel engine is available in both BS-IV and BS-VI versions (only available in top-end Trailhawk variant with a 9-speed AT). The motor produces 173 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Standard transmission is a 6-speed manual unit.
The petrol motor is currently available only in BS-IV version and is mated either to a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed AT. Power and torque figures stand at 163 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The entire lineup would be upgraded to BS-VI by early next year.
With FCA deciding to withdraw Fiat brand from India, Jeep shoulders the full responsibility of making the local operations viable in the long term. The SUV brand is reportedly working on a sub-Compass crossover which will have India as one of its primary markets. This upcoming made-in-India SUV is expected to help the brand achieve its volume targets in the country.
