Tata Kestrel and Goshawk are codenames of projects Q501 and Q502

Codename Tata Kestrel, which is believed to be the project codename Q501, would be the 5-seater variant aiming at the ever growing sub-mid-size SUV segment starting with Mahindra XUV500. While, Tata Goshawk would be the seven seater variant of the same underpinnings and features, set to battle against segment leader Toyota Fortuner for starters.

Same segment is expected to receive the Tata Aria based SUV previewed by Tata Hexa concept, regardless of which this Tata Kestrel and Tata Goshawk family of SUVs will be introduced.

Tata Q501 / Q502 will be based on modified Land Rover Discovery Sport platform, which is a lightweight and more economical derivative of the flagship Land Rover Discovery SUV’s architecture.

The obvious JLR’s involvement in this Tata project is what the Indian automaker will be capitalising on, not only to prove the SUVs’ capabilities, but also to attract prospective buyers towards this offering.
