17 Feb 2015 Update – Tata Kite continues making test runs. The latest spy shots reveal the hatchback is cruising on a highway outside Pune.
27 Jan 2015– Just like the Falcon siblings (now Zest and Bolt), Tata Motors is working on Kite siblings. Slated for launch later this year, Kite hatchback and sedan will be placed a notch below the existing Bolt and Zest, respectively.
To be launched in both petrol and diesel engine options, Tata Kite siblings will receive a 1.2 liter petrol Revotron engine (which may be downtuned for more efficiency) and a 1.05 liter three cylinder diesel unit offering 64 hp power and 142 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Once launched, Tata Kite hatchback will replace the Indica hatchback, while Kite sedan will replace Indigo sedan.
To be produced at the under-utilized Sanand plant of Tata Motors, Tata Kite will feature sporty exteriors and comfortable interiors. Quality of materials will not be as good as seen on Bolt or Zest, but will be decent to compete with rivals in the segment. More details of the Tata Kite siblings will be revealed prior to launch. Expect Kite hatchback to be priced in the Rs 3.7 lakh category, while Kite sedan could come in the Rs 4.2 lakh range.
Apart from the Tata Kite siblings, the company is also working on many new products, all of which are under the HorizoNEXT umbrella. Under this strategy, Tata Motors aims to replace / update their entire line-up with exciting offerings. Other new cars which will see the light of day in the next two years includes Aria facelift (codenamed Eagle), Safari Storme facelift, new small hatchback based on modified Nano platform (codenamed Pelican), a compact SUV, and new Nano variants.
