Tata vs Mahindra car discounts compared – Nexon, XUV300, Harrier, XUV500

With the sentiment of Vocal for Local going strong, Tata and Mahindra are expected to register increased sales

Home-grown carmakers Tata Motors and Mahindra usually fight for the third place in the Indian car market, as the first two slots are taken by Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, respectively. The race between the two is usually neck and neck across monthly sales charts.

In July, both Tata and Mahindra are offering attractive discounts and benefits on several of their cars. Here’s a quick comparison between discount offers announced by Tata and Mahindra in July 2020.

Hatchback discount – Tiago Vs. KUV100

A consistent performer, Tata Tiago is available with total benefits worth Rs 28k. It includes cash discount of Rs 10k, exchange benefits worth Rs 15k and corporate discount of up to Rs 3k. In comparison, Mahindra KUV100 is being offered with significantly higher discounts and benefits. Offers on KUV100 include Rs 33k cash discount, Rs 20k exchange benefits, Rs 5k worth of accessories and up to Rs 4k corporate discount.

In terms of sales, Tiago is way ahead of KUV100. In June, Tiago sales stood at 4,069 units in comparison to 49 units of KUV100. Tiago was the fourth bestselling small hatchback in June 2020, ahead of Maruti Swift.

Compact SUV discount – Nexon Vs. XUV300

In the hotly contested compact SUV space, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport are the usual contenders for the third spot. The first and second position is usually taken by Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. This was evident in June 2020 when Brezza had emerged as the top selling compact SUV with sales of 4542 units. Venue was at second place with 4129 units, followed by Nexon (3040 units) and XUV300 (1812 units).

As may be recalled, Nexon sales have improved since the time it received 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP crash tests. It is the only car in its class to achieve this feat.

In July, Tata Motors is offering Nexon with corporate discount worth Rs 5k. Additional benefits worth Rs 5k may also be available at specific Tata dealerships. In comparison, customers buying XUV300 stand to gain a lot more. Benefits include 30k cash discount for petrol variant, 25k exchange bonus for both petrol and diesel variants and corporate discount worth Rs 4.5k.

Mid-size SUV discount – Harrier Vs. XUV500

Harrier may not be the bestselling mid-size SUV, but it has taken a significant lead over XUV500. In June, Harrier sales stood at 653 units, placing it at fifth place in the list of bestselling mid-size SUVs. On the other hand, Mahindra XUV500 was ranked at number seven with sales of 231 units. XUV500 was once the segment leader, but it appears to have lost its charm after arrival of new products such as Kia Seltos and MG Hector.

In July, offers on Harrier include Rs 25k cash discount, Rs 40k exchange bonus and Rs 15k corporate discount. Offers on XUV500 include Rs 30k exchange benefits and up to Rs 9k corporate discount.
