At the 2016 DefExpo, Tata Motors showcased their line-up of heavy-duty vehicles engineered for the use of military forces around the world, especially the Indian Army. On display were their range of 4×4, 6×6, 8×8 and 12×12 heavy duty trucks.
At the DefExpo, Tata Motors also announced that they have received yet another order from Indian Army. This new order is a repeat order of the 6×6 high mobility multi-axle vehicle which Tata Motors had delivered previously. The new order is for 619 units while the previous order was for 1,239 units. This is the single largest order awarded to a private Indian OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) by Indian Army.
Tata Motors has been producing defence vehicles since decades. Their partnership with the Ministry of Defence first started in 1958. Today, Tata Motors offers a range of vehicles specially build for the utilization of Indian Army. These includes range of vehicles for logistics, light armoured, combat support, and combat range.
Tata Motors is currently working on FICV (Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle) and FRCV (Future Ready Combat Vehicle) / Light Battle Tank. Sketches of the same were showcased at the 2016 DefExpo and can be seen in the images below.
