Tata Motors passenger cars 67% sales decline in March 2013, 30% decline for FY 12-13

Tata Motors sales of commercial and passenger vehicles were recorded at 72,712 units in March 2013. This includes exports. During the month, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles recorded their highest ever monthly sales during the period April 2012 to March 2013. Major sales during the month of March 2013 were seen in the Pickups and SCV segments while domestic sales of Tata Commercial and Passenger vehicles stood at 69,160 units during the same month.

Cumulative sales both domestic and exports in FY12-13 stood at 810,086 units. March 2013 sales of commercial vehicles in domestic markets stood at 56,813 units out of which 41,961 units of LCVs were sold and 14,852 units of M&HCVs were sold. 6,981 units of Tata Super Ace, Tata Xenon and Tata 207 were sold in March 2013, while 29,960 units of Tata Ace and Tata Magic range were sold. Commercial vehicle sales in domestic markets for the entire fiscal stood at 537,143 units out of which LCV sales stood at 393,762 units and M&HCV sales stood at 143,381 units. Tata Motors also launched seven new commercial vehicles during the past fiscal. These included the Tata Xenon Pick-up, Tata LPT 3723, Tata PRIMA 4938 tractor, Tata PRIMA 3138K, Tata PRIMA 4923 and 4023 and a Tata LPK 3118 tipper.

Sales of passenger vehicles during the month of March 2013 stood at 12,347 units out of which sales of Nano, Indica and Indigo reached the 8,903 unit mark while sales of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture range stood at 3,444 units. In comparison, Tata motors had sold 36,984 passenger vehicles in 2012 March.  Exports during March 2013 stood at 3,552 units while cumulative sales from exports during the fiscal stood at 50,831 units. Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles were 222,112 vehicles with Nano/ Indica/ Indigo accounting for 174,692 units, and Sumo/Safari/ Aria/ Venture vehicles accounting for 47,420 units. In comparison, cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the last fiscal were 313,710 Tata vehicles.

The year saw Tata motors introduce Telematics & Fleet Management Service that enables remote vehicle tracking services of fleet vehicles with the aim to increase profitability, and productivity. ‘Tata Alert’, a highway assistance programme for medium and heavy commercial vehicles came into being. This service ensures drivers receive on-site breakdown assistance within 4 hours. In FY 12-13, Tata Motors launched the all new Tata Vista D90 sedan, new Tata Safari Storme SUV, Tata Manza Club Class sedan, Tata Aria Pure LX, Nano Special Edition, and Tata Indica eV2 hatchback. The company is now focused on state-of-the-art new-look company-owned showrooms that will be introduced pan India through the current India.
