Tata Motors September 2015 sales decline

One of the largest vehicle manufacturer in the country, Tata Motors has posted cumulative sales of 45,215 units during September 2015. As compared to September 2014, when the company sold 46,154 units, it is a 2% decline registered by the company.

Speaking about passenger car sales, which has seen the launch of three new cars (Bolt, Zest and Nano GenX) and one revamped car (Safari Storme), all in the last 12 months, Tata Motors registered sales of 11,774 units. This when compared to September 2014, when three of the four new cars were not on offer, Tata Motors registered sales of 11,931 units. The decline in passenger car sales is at 1.32%.

It is clear that Tata Motors has failed to make a revival in sales, post the launch of their new cars, especially Bolt, Zest and GenX Nano. The company argues, says that their passenger cars (exclusing UVs) have actually performed better in September 2015 as compared to September 2014.

They have a point. In Sep 2015, passenger cars (excluding UVs) registered sales of 10,226 units, as against 9,766 units sold in September 2014. This is an increase of 5%. Their UVs on the other hand, registered a sales decline of 28%, by posting sales of 1,548 units in September 2015.

Speaking about their commercial vehicles, Tata Motors posted sales of 15,915 units in M&HCV segment while the Light & Small Commercial Vehicle sales declined by 29%, posting sales of 13,124 units. Cumulative commercial vehicle sales were at 29,039 units, as against 33,119 units – a decline of 12.32%.

Exports of Tata Motors too posted a decline during September 2015. They stood at 4,402 units, as against 5,246 vehicles exported in September 2014 – registering a decline of 16%.

In the PV segment, the company now looks forward to launch new Kite hatchback and sedan in India. The hatchback will sit below the Bolt while the sedan will sit below the sedan. Apart from these two, Tata also has the Hexa Crossover, and Nexon Compact SUV – all of which are expected to be launched in 2016.
