Tata Motors ties up with ICAR to assemble LCVs in Tunisia

In a bid to expand its international production footprint, Tata Motors has announced a partnership with Tunisia’s ICAR SA. The partnership will involve assembly of pickups and light commercial vehicles in the North African nation.

ICAR SA, a subsidiary of Le Moteur SA, and its Indian partner will soon commence local assembly of Tata Xenon pickup, Ace and Super Ace at their Tunisian facility. According to RT Wasan, Head – International Business, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, the local assembly operation will benefit from well established supplier base and skilled automotive labor force in the country.

Tata Xenon is all set to become the most powerful pickup in Tunisian market at 140 PS. It is also one of the highly equipped vehicles of its kind with features such as AC, power steering, security alarm, powered windows and mirrors. Both single and double cab variants will be made available. While single cab will be offered only in 4×2 configuration, double cab variant will get 4×4 as an option.

Tata Ace and Super Ace will open up a new LCV segment in Tunisia. With body styles matching the needs of various small business applications, the automaker is upbeat about its prospects in the country. Distribution and after sales will continue to be handled by erstwhile partner Le Motuer.

Mr. Wasan stated that local production presence in Tunisia is a part of the company’s strategic move to expand its presence in Africa. Tata Motors will continuously launch new models and update the existing ones in Tunisia.
